Director of Franchise Development shares what makes the rapidly expanding air duct cleaning franchise a best-bet investment.
Now, more than ever, the air we breathe is at the top of everyone’s mind. This is why owning an HVAC and air duct cleaning business is a wise investment for entrepreneurs.
There’s a growing need for these services, and this need is not going to slow down anytime soon. As more and more regulation comes online, this is going to become a mandatory service for home and property owners, which truly makes HVAC repair a recession-resistant business. Additionally, there are few trusted, national brands in the booming $97 billion HVAC repair industry. The majority of businesses in the HVAC segment are fly-by-night operators who aren’t accountable to the homes and businesses they service.
Enter DUCTZ, one of the leading air duct cleaning franchise brands in the nation. Over the past several years, our commitment to expert work and putting our customers’ needs first has earned us a reputation for providing an unmatched value and service to commercial, residential and health care properties. As part of the BELFOR Franchise Group, we are able to provide our franchise owners with robust training, world-class support, and access to lucrative institutional accounts, jobs, and industry relationships. Ultimately, this allows them to thrive over the long-term.
In this wide-ranging interview, Ken Osness, Director of Franchise Development for DUCTZ, shares everything from who makes the ideal DUCTZ franchise owner, to what makes this a best-bet business in which to invest.
What is DUCTZ?
Osness: DUCTZ specializes in indoor air quality. We clean air ducts in residential homes and commercial businesses, and also offer coil cleaning services, which is a big part of the HVAC industry. One of the great things about DUCTZ is that we wrote the standards that are now being utilized nationwide for the proper way to clean air ducts. Every day people are dealing with indoor quality issues stemming from fires, hurricanes, water damage, and more. These unfortunate events create a lot of opportunities for us to go into homes and commercial properties and provide a necessary service.
What lines of service do you offer?
Osness: Our primary services include air duct cleaning and HVAC restoration, dryer vent cleaning — which is a big part of our business — and coil cleaning. Additionally, we provide bathroom exhaust cleaning, construction debris control, duct sealing and multi-unit and commercial dryer vent cleaning. Ultimately, our services break down into two categories: residential services and commercial. Although there are far more residential homes, there’s a lot of money to be made in commercial property by servicing factories, hospitals, prisons, schools and universities, and more.
Who is the ideal DUCTZ franchisee?
Osness: A great DUCTZ franchise owner is someone who really cares about detail and cleanliness. It’s also important that this person understands the importance of providing an exceptional customer experience, and knows how to explain what it is that we do. At DUCTZ, we pride ourselves on providing an unmatched value and service to our customers. We are nothing like the fly-by-night operators in the industry, who say they have done something but really haven’t. This is why we provide our customers with picture reports showing the quality of our work through before-and-after images. By providing visual proof of how we completed the job, this encourages repeat and word-of-mouth business, which helps our franchisees grow and thrive in business.
What are some of the common questions people ask about DUCTZ?
Osness: We’re asked how often air ducts and HVAC systems need to be cleaned, which is typically every three to five years. People also ask if this is a viable business, and yes, it can be very lucrative. Additionally, we know that potential buyers are concerned about the regulations and certifications needed to be a quality cleaner. The great thing about becoming a DUCTZ franchise owner is that we help ensure our franchisees meet all of the necessary requirements so that all they have to focus on is running their business and providing an unmatched customer experience.
Why is now a good time to invest in a DUCTZ franchise?
Osness: One of the reasons DUCTZ is a great business to invest in is because there are a lot of people focused on health and wellness in this country. More and more we’re learning about toxins that are in homes, including mold and pets, which can really affect the quality of air. That’s where DUCTZ comes in. Our air duct cleaning and HVAC restoration franchise successfully improves the indoor air quality of every home and commercial business we service. Air ducts have to be cleaned regularly as well, so this is truly a need — not want — business.
